What is a POP3 Email account?

A POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) Email account allows a person to receive Email in a personal Email box. Each POP3 account is assigned an Email address and a password which allows the user to log into the Email server (mail.yourdomain.com). A user will enter their email address (you@domain.com) and password, and then down-load their Email. Most users use 3rd party Email programs to download mail from the server. Programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird and Mail are the most common.

Users may operate one or more Email POP3's, but it is not recommended that more than one user share a single Email POP3. When a user logs into the system and downloads their mail they would be downloading all the Emails sent to that POP3, including the Email intended for other users.
