What to do when you get an 80% Bandwidth Message

The bandwidth notices are automated, and you should not disregard them. If you go over your bandwidth allotment for the month, your site will automatically shut off until midnight of the 1st. The question is whether you'll get through the rest of the month without a hitch or whether you should upgrade now, and the answer is up to you. Here are some things to consider:

- Is the month well over 80% finished?

- How much bandwidth have you been using per day?

- Have you been using more bandwidth per day near the end of the month than you did at the beginning?

You can find these numbers in cPanel under Web/FTP Stats . Click on AWStats, and scroll to the "Days of Month" section to see how much bandwidth you've used each day. The "Days of Week" area will tell you whether some days are busier than others.

If your numbers tell you it's time to upgrade, or if you're expecting higher-than-average traffic, or if you just want to be 100% sure you will not go over bandwidth, you can upgrade your package with these steps.

If you don't need to upgrade this month, you will still want to keep a close watch on the site and also see whether there's any way you can conserve bandwidth. Consider enabling hotlink protection or optimizing your images for the web.

If you do happen to run over your bandwidth limit, upgrade as soon as possible.   You may need to wait for propagation before you'll see the site again.
